An update from Serah Munguti, Nature Kenya ...
Mat International is proposing to plant 80,000 hectares of irrigated sugarcane to the north of the Tana Integrated Sugar Project.
Court case
The first hearing for the court case is scheduled on 9th September 2008 at the Malindi High Court.
Advocacy
So far 3,303 people from 90 countries have sent 140,615 protest emails to the Kenya government and other recipients via the online petition
Nature Kenya continues to receive emails from members and other concerned individuals protesting to the NEMA Director General.

- Cheryl-Samantha Owen of Born Free managed to get a news piece into this month's BBC WILDLIFE magazine.
- Dr David Harper (Leicester University) and Nature Kenya are in consultation to make a short film of the Tana Delta, with funding from the Darwin Initiative. The initiative is running a programme on training young conservationists in Kenya and Tanzania to shoot and edit biodiversity films. The main objective of the film will be to educate local communities on why the Delta should be listed as a Ramsar site.
- More media interviews have been conducted and we are awaiting any coverage that will result from this

- Evans Kidero, Managing Director for Mumias Sugar Company was on NTV news at 9 p.m. countering civil society concerns that the project will negatively impact on the Delta, its people and biodiversity.
23rd/24th August 2008
- NTV aired the Tana Delta in a series dubbed the Delta Divide towards the end of the news at 9 p.m. Excerpts from Gladys Mutiso’s interviews with Paul Matiku were shown. Gladys also traveled to the Delta and interviewed local people
